Neal Rockwell holds an MFA in Documentary Media from Toronto Metropolitan University (2021) and a BFA in Photography from Emily Carr University of Art and Design (2007). He is a photographer, cinematographer, filmmaker, and writer based in Montreal, specializing in visual investigations, with experience spanning photojournalism, videography, and print journalism. For the past several years he has also worked as a documentary researcher and story producer for a range of production companies, developing story arcs, writing shooting scripts, and conducting international research to find characters, experts, and locations for documentary series and feature films. His work has appeared in The Globe and Mail, Bloomberg, Al Jazeera, CBC, and the Toronto Star, among others, and in 2026 he was selected for the Globe and Mail Photojournalism Summit, an annual gathering of Canada’s leading photojournalists and editors. He is also a practicing visual artist. For over 20 years, Neal has documented people living at the margins of global capitalism.
